Connecting parents to the classroom: SMA Room Parents
At Stella Maris Academy, our Room Parents play an essential role in strengthening the bond between families, teachers, and the school community. By volunteering their time and enthusiasm, Room Parents help ensure that every classroom runs smoothly, that teachers feel supported, and that students experience the joy of a connected, caring school environment.

Why volunteer as a room parent?
Commitment and Collaboration
Serving as a Room Parent is both rewarding and impactful. Room Parents are active participants in the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), helping to plan, organize, and support school events throughout the year. Attendance at key meetings and PTO-sponsored activities is an important part of the role, ensuring consistent communication and teamwork across all grades. This shared responsibility helps create balance, allowing everyone to contribute meaningfully while keeping workloads fair and manageable.
Supporting Teachers and Classrooms
Room Parents work closely with classroom teachers to coordinate celebrations, special projects, and other classroom needs. We ask that all Room Parents schedule a meeting with their assigned teacher early in the school year to understand their preferences and expectations. The goal is to assist and support—not overwhelm—our teachers, while respecting their time and classroom routines.
A Year of Connection and Community
Being a Room Parent is more than just volunteering—it’s an opportunity to make a lasting difference in your child’s school experience. Your commitment helps build the welcoming, family-centered environment that makes Stella Maris Academy so special. Together, we can create a joyful and faith-filled year for our students, teachers, and families alike.
