At Stella Maris Academy, we believe that social growth is just as important as academic success. To support this, we have adopted the Boys Town Social Skills Curriculum, which helps students develop positive behaviors and strong relationships in school and beyond.

Our teachers and staff are equipped with practical strategies and proven principles to guide students in learning a clear set of social skills. These skills cover interactions with adults and peers, following school rules, and participating positively in the classroom. By focusing on teaching alternative, prosocial behaviors, our staff helps students move beyond simply recognizing problems to practicing constructive, respectful responses.

A key part of the curriculum is teaching interaction, which encourages teachers to guide students calmly and positively, reinforcing good behaviors and addressing challenges in a supportive way. Lessons often include role-playing and other engaging activities, and student behavior is consistently monitored with appropriate consequences—both positive and corrective.

Parents are kept informed about the program and its role in shaping their children’s social development, ensuring a strong partnership between home and school in guiding students toward success.

Boys Town Curriculum

The school utilizes the Boys Town Social Skills Curriculum (grades TK-8) daily to teach students how to problem-solve, make good choices, and self-advocate. Core skills include following instructions, greeting others, accepting consequences, working as a team, and resolving disagreements appropriately.
